Dachshund Days of Summer Play Date Meetup
August 24, 2008 2:00 PM

$2.00 per family. Ah, the Florida weather... its hot, its humid, and its unpredictable!  Which is why this month
we're taking it easy. Squirrel Ridge Dog Park is an off leash dog park, where the dogs just love running around
and romping with each other.
So, come out and join us for a simple day of watching the Dachshunds play! Don't worry about bringing anything
but you, your dachshunds (some friends and family members are fine!) and your chairs or blankets to sit on.
We will be brining a cooler full of water (for the humans and dachshunds) so if you would like to bring something
else to drink you are welcome to share the cooler. We might even try a special treat for the dachshunds so I'll call
it a fun surprise and hope the weather cooperates! Also, there will still be the dachshund races and prizes, its
just not a meetup without those races. So keep practicing, there are some new champions emerging! Learn

The city of Ocala is urging citizens to register their contact information for a new, enhanced citizen emergency
notification system. Called “Ocala Emergency Alert,” the system provides reliable and fast information
simultaneously to land line telephones, cell phones, E-mail addresses and other communication devices. “In
order for this system to operate the most effectively, we need citizens of Ocala to provide us their contact
information,” said Ocala Fire-Rescue Chief Dan Gentry. If you have a typical land line telephone number, your
information already is in the notification system’s database,
unless the number is unlisted. If you have an
unlisted number, cell phone, E-mail address or some other electronic means by which you wish to be contacted
during times of emergency, you need to provide that information to the city. All information will be kept
You can register your information on-line by going to alert.ocalafl.org and following the
instructions. If you do not have access to a computer, registration forms can be picked up at the Ocala Fire-
Rescue headquarters, 410 NE 3rd St. Also, you can call 629-8512 and one will be sent to you. “About 20 percent
of the population does not have a traditional telephone, so
it is critical that we receive this contact information
so all of our population can be notified during times of emergency,” Gentry said.
